The Value of Student Response Systems

Many teachers have caught on to the value of using student response systems  in the classroom.  In our district, we are fortunate to have access to two key brands – TurningPoint and iRespond.

The TurningPoint kits have more longevity in the district and will be the focus of this article.  TurningPoint allows us to poll our students using PowerPoint, web-based applications and PDFs, and printed (self-paced) documents.  The first step in the process is to download the TurningPoint software.  You can find the software in the Technology Support Center (http://tsc.clayton.k12.ga.us).  The second step in the process is to determine the type of “clickers” that are available at your school.  If you are interested in self-paced polling, the TurningPoint NXT devices are the only clickers that are able to accomplish this task.

See the types of TurningPoint clickers that are available in the district.

Every teacher should master the “Poll Anywhere” version of the software.  It will allow a user to poll on any web-based or computer-based software.

Check out the video below as Reeshard Scott explains the process for using Poll Anywhere.
